Osun: Davido Reacts as Uncle, Governor Adeleke Resigns From PD

In a surprising political twist, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), sending shockwaves through the state’s political landscape. The resignation, which took effect on November 4, 2025, was only confirmed publicly on Monday evening.

According to a letter shared online by his aide Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke cited unresolved national-level disputes within the PDP as the reason for his departure.

Addressed to his Ward 2 chairman in Ede North, the letter acknowledged the party’s support in his journey from senator to governor but expressed that ongoing internal conflicts made it untenable for him to continue under the PDP banner.

The development quickly drew reactions from members of his family, including music superstar Davido, who simply wrote “Jeje…” on his X page, reflecting his understated response to his uncle’s political decision.

Adeleke’s exit has thrown the Osun 2026 governorship race into uncertainty. The state PDP has postponed its primary, citing internal disagreements, while the party’s National Working Committee has insisted that the exercise should continue as scheduled.

Notably, Adeleke remains the only aspirant who had purchased the governorship nomination form, deepening the confusion around the upcoming election.

Political observers now speculate that Governor Adeleke may seek re-election under the Accord Party, with reports suggesting that some of his aides are already transitioning to the new party and assuming key positions in Osun.

Earlier efforts to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly failed, as party leaders declined his application.

As the 2026 election approaches, all eyes are now on Adeleke’s next move, which could significantly reshape the political dynamics in Osun State.

Mr P Reacts as EFCC Says No Evidence Against P-Square Brothers

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has reacted to reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacks evidence to back his claims that his former P-Square bandmates and brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye, fraudulently withdrew $800,000 from their joint company account.

The dispute traces back to a 2024 petition filed by Peter Okoye, in which he accused Jude and Paul of diverting funds, secretly operating 47 undisclosed bank accounts, and manipulating the shareholding structure of Northside Entertainment Ltd. Following the petition, the EFCC brought financial misconduct charges against Jude, linking him to the management of the P-Square brand.

During cross-examination in court, EFCC counsel M.K. Bashir told Justice Rahman Oshodi that the commission could not produce any evidence supporting the alleged $800,000 withdrawal.

Pressed to substantiate the claim, Bashir said, “We do not have it. It is his evidence. Let him prove it. I can’t give what I don’t have.”

He also denied holding proof of the alleged 47 bank accounts, adding, “It is one of the witness’s claims, but I do not have such a copy.”

Reacting on social media, Peter Okoye dismissed the report as “jokes and propaganda,” criticizing attempts to portray him negatively.

Peter Obi Slams Tinubu’s Ambassadorial Nominees, Calls Selections “Shocking” Amid National Struggles

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has voiced sharp criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s latest batch of ambassadorial nominees, describing some of the selections as “shocking” and symptomatic of Nigeria’s deteriorating political culture.

According to reports, on November 29, 2025, President Tinubu forwarded a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, days after submitting an earlier trio of names.

The nominees include prominent political figures such as former presidential aide Reno Omokri, ex-aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode, former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, and ex-Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

Reacting in a statement posted on 𝕏 on Monday, Obi questioned the criteria behind the selections, emphasizing what he sees as a pattern of mediocrity in leadership.

“Yes, some of the names being paraded to represent us as ambassadors globally are shocking,” Obi said.

“But with a leadership that has allowed mediocrity, corruption, and impunity to rise to the top, who else could you expect them to choose?”

The former Anambra governor tied his criticism to Nigeria’s broader economic and social crises, highlighting the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.

“When our people are being killed, our leaders are busy hosting dinners. When children are being abducted from their schools, the political class is celebrating and dancing,” he said.

“When families cannot afford their next meal, those in power are welcoming defectors and exchanging gifts as though Nigeria is not burning. This is not governance. This is not leadership. And this is certainly not the Nigeria we deserve.”

Obi also reflected on the emotional toll of the country’s situation, sharing an encounter with young Nigerians at Abuja airport who questioned his recent silence.

“It is the kind of pain that one carries silently,” he said, recalling the humiliating comment by a former American president who referred to Nigeria as a “now disgraced country.”

“Today, when you look around, you begin to understand why the world speaks of us that way.”

FG Explains Why Nigeria Granted Asylum To Guinea-Bissau Opposition Candidate

The Nigerian government has granted asylum to Fernando Dias da Costa, Guinea-Bissau’s opposition presidential candidate, after he reportedly received life-threatening messages in the aftermath of last Wednesday’s military coup.

Da Costa is currently being sheltered inside the Nigerian embassy in Bissau, a move authorities say is aimed at preventing further escalation of the crisis that engulfed the country shortly after its contentious presidential election.

Coup Erupts After Disputed Election

The coup occurred only days after Guinea-Bissau’s presidential poll, in which both Da Costa and incumbent President Umaro Embaló prematurely claimed victory—well before the national electoral commission could release official results.

The political standoff quickly spiraled into unrest, culminating in the military takeover that has drawn widespread regional condemnation.

Nigeria Calls for Restoration of Order

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed grave concern over the coup, urging the immediate reinstatement of democratic governance. The ministry also signalled that Abuja would work with international partners to ensure a rapid return to stability.

Tinubu Approves Asylum

In a letter dated November 30 and addressed to ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorized Da Costa’s protection following reports of threats to his life.

Tuggar requested ECOWAS intervention at the embassy, writing: “It would be appreciated if you would kindly mandate the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) to provide him protection and security while in the premises of the Nigerian embassy.”

Alkasim Abdulkadir, the minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, confirmed to The Cable that the letter was authentic.

Protection Consistent With Nigeria’s Regional Mandate

According to Abdulkadir, granting asylum to Da Costa aligns with Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to peace and democratic stability across West Africa.

“The decision of the Federal Government to grant asylum falls squarely within Nigeria’s sovereign responsibility and dedication to regional peace, stability, and good governance,” he said.

He added that the move was designed to prevent tensions in Guinea-Bissau from worsening, stressing that Nigeria acted “in the broader interest of de-escalation and social cohesion in the sub-region.”

ECOWAS Responds, Suspends Guinea-Bissau

ECOWAS convened an emergency virtual summit shortly after the coup and has since suspended Guinea-Bissau from the regional bloc until constitutional order is restored.

NARD Gives FG Four-Week Ultimatum, Threatens Indefinite Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, announcing that it will resume a total and indefinite strike if all agreements reached are not fully implemented within the next four weeks.

This warning was contained in a communiqué released after NARD’s Extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

The document was jointly signed by the association’s President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman; Secretary-General, Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim; and Publicity and Social Secretary, Dr. Abdulmajid Ibrahim.

The ultimatum comes just days after the union suspended its nationwide industrial action on Saturday, ending a 29-day shutdown of medical services.

The suspension followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in which the Federal Government committed to implementing all outstanding demands within four weeks.

Four Weeks to Deliver — NARD Sets Firm Deadline

According to the communiqué, the NEC agreed to pause the strike only to allow close monitoring of the implementation process.

“The strike is suspended for four weeks to enable evaluation of progress. Any failure to fully implement the agreements within this period will lead to the resumption of a total, indefinite, and comprehensive strike,” the statement read.

While acknowledging that some steps had been taken, the NEC insisted that all components of the agreement must be executed without delay.

NARD Highlights Outstanding Demands

The association outlined several priority issues that must be addressed immediately by the government:

* Reinstatement of the five disengaged doctors at Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, within two weeks.

* Payment of accumulated arrears, including CONMESS adjustments, accoutrement allowance, specialist allowance, promotion arrears, and outstanding salaries across affected hospitals—compilation and payment must be completed within one month.

* Resumption and timely completion of the CBA exercise, which has stalled.

* Full enforcement of all remaining resolutions reached during earlier conciliatory meetings.

Local Industrial Actions to Continue

NARD noted that while the national strike has been suspended, state-owned teaching hospitals and federal institutions with unresolved internal issues are permitted to maintain local strikes until credible commitments are obtained from their respective managements.

The association reaffirmed that its latest suspension is temporary and conditional, stressing that the government must meet all obligations before the four-week window closes.

NYSC DG Warns Corps Members Against Unauthorized Travel and Night Trips

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has issued a strong warning to corps members, insisting that no journey should be undertaken without official clearance to avoid unnecessary danger on Nigerian highways.

Nafiu delivered the message during his address to 2025 Batch ‘C’ corps members at the Edo State Orientation Camp.

His remarks were later contained in a statement released by the NYSC spokesperson, Gbenga Fanegane.

According to him, unauthorised movements remain one of the leading causes of preventable incidents involving corps members, especially given the security challenges and road hazards across the country.

“Travelling without approval is a needless risk. Always ensure you have authorisation before leaving your state of deployment. Do not expose yourself to danger,” he stressed.

Stay Alert, Stay Safe — DG Advises

The NYSC boss also urged corps members to remain vigilant at their places of primary assignment, particularly those posted to unfamiliar communities. He cautioned that night travel—commonly undertaken by young graduates trying to save time—has contributed significantly to tragedies recorded during service years.

“Your safety is your responsibility. Avoid travelling at night and always stay aware of your surroundings,” he said.

He added that corps members must verify information before sharing it online, warning that unchecked rumours and unverified posts can spark unnecessary panic.

Avoid Crime, Protect Your Future

Nafiu further advised corps members to steer clear of criminal activities and social vices, warning that involvement in cultism, cybercrime, thuggery, or any form of misconduct could jeopardize their safety and future ambitions.

“Stay away from cultism, cybercrime, thuggery, or any act that can undermine your integrity or security,” he cautioned.

Edo Coordinator Commends DG

Meanwhile, the Edo State NYSC Coordinator, Dr. Ifeoma Frances Ben-Ushie, expressed appreciation to the Director-General for ongoing improvements at the orientation camp.

She noted that the upgraded facilities have created a safer and more supportive environment for both corps members and staff.

“We appreciate the Director-General for ensuring an enabling atmosphere where corps members can perform their duties confidently and safely,” she said.

Osun Governor Adeleke Quits PDP Over National Leadership Crisis

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the unresolved leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level as the decisive factor behind his exit.

Adeleke made his resignation known in a statement released Monday night, confirming that he had formally submitted the letter to PDP leaders in his Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.

Explaining his decision, the governor said: “In light of the persistent leadership challenges confronting the Peoples Democratic Party at the national stage, I have, on November 4, 2025, communicated my resignation from the party to the leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.”

He expressed gratitude for the opportunities the party afforded him over the years, noting his rise from a Senator of the Federal Republic to the Governor of Osun State.

Adeleke’s departure comes amid ongoing speculation about his political future. Earlier reports indicated that the governor had grown increasingly reluctant to seek the PDP’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the party resolved its deep-seated internal disputes.

Despite the turbulence, the Osun PDP leadership had remained optimistic that a reconciliation—if concluded in time and recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—might convince Adeleke to stay in the party and pursue a second-term bid under its platform.

His resignation now signals a major turning point for the PDP in Osun State and raises new questions about the political landscape ahead of the 2026 governorship race.

Tinubu Begins Search for New Defence Minister as Badaru Abubakar Steps Down

President Bola Tinubu is expected to announce a new Minister of Defence within days following the abrupt resignation of the current office holder, Badaru Abubakar, who bowed out citing health concerns.

Abubakar’s resignation—effective immediately—was formally communicated to the President in a letter dated December 1. The development was made public on Monday evening through a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, the outgoing minister explained in his letter that his decision was driven strictly by health reasons. President Tinubu, in accepting the resignation, expressed appreciation for Abubakar’s service and commitment.

The Presidency also hinted that Tinubu will forward the name of Abubakar’s replacement to the Senate later this week, signaling that the search for a new defence chief is already in motion.

Abubakar, 63, previously governed Jigawa State for two terms between 2015 and 2023. He was appointed Defence Minister on August 21, 2023, making his exit relatively sudden and politically significant.

His departure coincides with a challenging period for the administration, which is currently confronting a surge in security threats nationwide. Only recently, President Tinubu declared a national security emergency and announced sweeping reforms, including the enlistment of 20,000 additional police officers, deployment of forest guards, and enhanced protection for schools, churches, mosques, and other vulnerable sites.

Pressure had been mounting from security analysts and public commentators who questioned Abubakar’s suitability for the role, with some calling for a change in leadership within the ministry.

Speculation over his possible successor intensified after a private meeting between President Tinubu and the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), held just hours before the resignation was made public. Musa, who retired on October 24, 2025, was seen arriving at the State House at 7:03 p.m. dressed in a dark-green traditional outfit, before being escorted into the President’s office wing.

Although details of the meeting remain undisclosed, the timing has stirred conversation within political and defence circles about whether Musa—or someone else from the security establishment—may be tapped to take over the defence portfolio.

As the nation awaits the President’s formal announcement, attention is now fixed on the strategic direction the administration intends to pursue to confront Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.
